Message from ACNS President

Distinguished Colleagues, Dear Friends, Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is my great honor and privilege, as the President of the Asian Congress of Neurological Surgeons, to warmly welcome you all to the 15th Asian Congress of Neurological Surgeons (ACNS), held from 31st July to 3rd August 2026 here at the magnificent St. Regis in Mumbai, India.

This congress is especially meaningful, as it brings us to reflect upon the legacy of our founder, the late Emeritus Professor Tetsuo Kanno, who dedicated his life to the education and training of neurosurgeons in developing countries. Through his tireless efforts and immense contributions, we can proudly say that our region has played a vital role in the evolution of neurosurgery. Many of his students today are among the most eminent leaders in neurosurgery worldwide, a testament to his vision and devotion.

This year’s congress, under the esteemed leadership of our Congress President, Professor Atul Goel, an excellent philosopher, a masterful neurosurgeon, and a strong advocate for the education of young neurosurgeons. Alongside him, we must recognize the tremendous work of Professor Abhidha Shah, the Congress Secretary. She is not only instrumental in the organization of this congress, but also a leading female neurosurgeon in the world, serving as a role model and inspiration for many. The theme of this year’s congress, “Technique, Technology and Philosophy of Neurosurgery,” reflects the balance between advancing surgical innovation and preserving the timeless philosophy that guides our work: to achieve the desired surgical goal with minimal collateral damage. This guiding principle is at the heart of neurosurgical excellence.

We are gathered in this beautiful hall which is most fitting for such an occasion, the Astor Ballroom, situated in the heart of Mumbai, a vibrant city that connects us seamlessly to the world’s commercial and cultural crossroads. Over the next few days, this space will transform into a hub of learning, innovation, and collaboration. We are proud to welcome more than 1,000 participants from all five continents and over 100 eminent speakers who will share their expertise. The program is enriched with hands-on workshops covering vital aspects of our field, including bypass surgery, endovascular techniques, endoscopy, neuroanatomy, and spine surgery. These sessions will provide invaluable opportunities for practical training and exchange of knowledge. Importantly, this congress is dedicated to the younger generation of neurosurgeons. They represent our future, and it is our responsibility to provide them with the best platform for education, training, and inspiration. Through the Young Neurosurgeons’ Sessions, we aim to encourage them to present their ideas, research, and innovations. We have been assisting in nurturing their growth and empowering them to carry forward the legacy of neurosurgery for generations to come.

We must also recognize that neurosurgery is not the work of neurosurgeons alone. It is a collaborative endeavour that unites the dedication of neuro-anaesthesiologists, neuro-nurses, paramedics, neurorehabilitation physicians, and many others. Together, we form a team that serves the ultimate purpose of healing.

Several prestigious awards will also be presented during this congress, celebrating excellence, innovation, and commitment in neurosurgery. As we embark on this congress, let us celebrate not only our scientific and technical advancements, but also the spirit of collaboration, mentorship, and philosophy that unites us as one global neurosurgical community. I believe this will be remembered as one of the finest ACNS Congresses in our history.

On behalf of the ACNS, I extend my deepest gratitude to our hosts, our speakers, our sponsors, and above all, to each one of you for your commitment and participation. I am confident that the 1 5th ACNS Congress in Mumbai will be a truly memorable and enriching experience for us all.

Welcome, and let us together shape the future of neurosurgery.

Thank you.

Yours truly,
